A photographers guide to weddings at The West Tower.
Hi, I’m Wes Simpson – an award-winning West Tower wedding photographer from Ormskirk Lancashire. If you’re planning on getting married at The West Tower Aughton or simply researching Lancashire wedding venues than this page is for you.
The West Tower is an exclusive Lancashire countryside wedding venue on the outskirts of Liverpool and just a 45-minute drive from Manchester. I have been a recommended West Tower wedding photographer for many years and enjoy a rich history of photographing weddings here since my first wedding at the venue in 2007.
You might recognise the photo below which was taken during summer wedding and showcases the iconic West Tower sunset over the Lancashire countryside. The image was used by The West Tower for a number of years in their advertising and featured in publications such as County Brides Magazine and on their display at wedding shows.
The West Tower is one of my favourite Lancashire wedding venues, which is ideal because it’s just a stone’s throw away from my home in Ormskirk. I love photographing weddings here and drawing upon my knowledge and experience, I have put together “A photographers guide to weddings at The West Tower.”
The venue has a wealth of photography opportunities that will make your wedding photographs the envy of all that see them. If you’re lucky enough to be getting married at the West Tower you can trust that you are in for a real treat and a day to remember…
If there’s anything else, just ask!

Indoor ceremonies are held in the ballroom all year round, a large airy room which can be separated by a partition, this offers a closed space for when your wedding is taking place and for smaller weddings.
The Ballroom is complete with a central aisle leading you through the room towards the registrar and can seat up to 145 guests, and offers PA facilities. There’s also ample space for musicians if you would like to walk down the aisle to live music — perhaps a harpist or string quartet.
After your ceremony or on arrival guests can use the outside garden and patio area. Drinks are served in the Cellar Bar whilst there is always cosy roaring fire in both the reception and the Leather lounge.

Photos at the West Tower
The West Tower is a picture-perfect wedding venue in Lancashire that provides lots of natural photographic opportunities. Some of the best locations for wedding photography at The West Tower include:
The steps at the back of the venue is a popular location for formal pictures. Both photographers and couples getting married at The West Tower enjoy formal portraits here. The setting lends itself to group shots of family members and classic pictures of the bridal party with ease.
Often, the wedding coordinator or master of ceremonies will arrange your guests on the steps for a large group shot; alternatively, you could come together on the lawn and using the height advantage you will be able to see everyone’s face in the picture.
The entrance and driveway to The West Tower is another popular location for formal portraits. Pictures taken at the front of the West Tower are often used by the couple in thank you cards and at Wes Simpson Weddings we often use these pictures for the album cover.
Candid and natural-looking photography
The West Tower offers an abundance of opportunity for candid photos after the ceremony. The terrace, manicured lawns and vista views of the Lancashire countryside provide a scenic backdrop for natural-looking images of guest enjoying the celebrations.
As a wedding photographer who specialises in natural documentary wedding photography at The West Tower, I love nothing more than getting creative and taking advantage of the iconic West Tower sunset over the Lancashire countryside.
Setting aside some alone time for evening portraits is a must when getting married at The West Tower if you want some beautiful romantic pictures of just the both of you. The evening light is stunning here and most couples say they enjoy having a little time out before the night time party sweeps them away.
