Jen and Luke’s Summer Wedding at Peckforton Castle

Hi, we are Jen and Luke, and this is our Peckforton Castle summer wedding photographer story.

We are both from Liverpool. Luke is a financial advisor, and I (Jen) recently changed jobs from being a deputy headteacher at a primary school to working in special needs at Liverpool City Council.

We met 18 years ago through Luke’s sister, who was my friend. We officially got together during lockdown in 2020 after a first date walk on Crosby Beach, where we talked about all the fancy houses we’d buy!

Luke proposed in Dubrovnik in June 2022. We climbed up to a viewpoint where there was a tiny church overlooking the Adriatic. No one was around, and I had no idea what was about to happen. We then spent the rest of the holiday celebrating in style.

Black Tie Peckforton Castle Summer Wedding

We had a summer wedding at Peckforton Castle in Cheshire—this was the first and only venue we viewed! It felt like it had everything we wanted: stunning grounds, the perfect ambiance, and the grandeur of the castle. We chose a summer wedding hoping for sun and were not disappointed! The weather was roasting, just as we had hoped.

Our wedding theme was black tie, which we thought would perfectly match both the venue and our style. Plus, it’s timeless. My dress was from Boutique Brides of Crosby, and Luke’s tux was from Moss Bros. We had around 100 guests, with seven groomsmen and six bridesmaids to complete our bridal party.

Summer Wedding at Peckforton Castle: The Perfect Day

The day was perfect from start to finish. We were married at 12 noon, giving us plenty of time to enjoy every moment. After the ceremony, we had dhol drummers accompanying us out of the main hall as husband and wife, which was such a special touch.

Since the sun was shining, our guests could enjoy drinks outside in the beautiful castle grounds, with Peckforton Castle providing a stunning backdrop. Everyone has commented on how lovely the food was, and the cheese cake was a hit!

After our first dance, the band played some indie classics, which had everyone up and dancing. Later in the evening, the bridal party sneaked off to take some magical sparkler shots in front of the castle as the sun went down. We ended the night in the wine cellar with a select few guests, enjoying drinks into the early hours. It truly was the perfect day!

Standout Moments

Some standout moments of our summer wedding at Peckforton Castle included:

  • Walking into the ceremony room and being completely speechless at how amazing everything looked. It was like a dream come true seeing it all come together.
  • Dhol drummers added so much fun to the day, and the band playing our favorite songs made everything feel even more personal.
  • The spontaneous sparkler photos as the sun set were another magical moment that we’ll cherish forever.

One of our favorite parts was a fun, impromptu moment during the sunset photos. We’re both quite competitive, and in the lead-up to the wedding, I had been running a lot. During the photoshoot, we decided to have a race—and Wes captured the fun perfectly. We call these our “runaway bride” photos, and they always make us laugh when we look back at them!

We couldn’t have asked for a more amazing day at Peckforton Castle, and we wouldn’t change a thing.

Behind the Lens: Capturing Jen and Luke’s Wedding

As a photographer, working with Jen and Luke at Peckforton Castle was a joy. The love they share, their sense of fun, and their laid-back personalities made it easy to capture real, candid moments that reflect who they are as a couple.

When they mentioned not wanting to spend too much time posing for formal shots, I knew that my documentary style would be a perfect fit for them. We had a relexed and fun day from start to finish.

It was important to Jen and Luke that their day unfolded naturally, and I made sure to blend in with the guests, capturing the candid emotions and special moments as they happened. Their spontaneous race during the sunset shoot is the perfect example of how I like to photograph—allowing couples to be themselves and creating memories that go beyond just traditional portraits.

Their day was filled with elegance, fun, and love—and I’m honored to have been a part of it. Peckforton Castle always offers such incredible backdrops, and Jen and Luke made the most of every corner of this beautiful venue for their wedding photos.
