Their autumn wedding at Meols Hall’s Tithe Barn in Southport was full of laughter, warmth, and genuine connection. Below, you can read the real wedding story in their own words, followed by five standout moments I’ll always remember capturing.
Carly & Dan’s cosy Meols Hall autumn wedding photography story. Real moments, warm light, and heartfelt emotion at Southport’s Tithe Barn, by Wes Simpson.

A cosy Meols Hall autumn wedding in Southport
We are Carly & Dan, and this is our Meols Hall autumn wedding photography story. We met on Hinge in December 2019 and had our first date at the Wheatsheaf in Borough Market. It was so cold we moved on to another pub just to stay warm, but it turned into one of those perfect nights where the conversation never stops.
Two years later, Dan proposed in December 2021 at The Pig in the New Forest. He called me into the living room while I was getting ready — I thought he wanted to show me something on TV, so I took ages. Magic Radio was playing Little St Nick and I eventually ran in singing, “Christmas comes this time each year,” with half my makeup done — only to find him down on one knee. It was perfect.
We got married at the Tithe Barn at Meols Hall. I grew up in Southport, so it felt special to celebrate at home. I’d always wanted an autumn wedding because I love the colours that time of year — the reds, golds, and oranges — and Meols Hall’s warm stone and timber were the perfect match.
The day started with bridal preparations at my parents’ home, followed by the short trip to Meols Hall. It was very relaxed. Wes, our wedding photographer, came and took some beautiful shots in the morning, which I love.
Dressing for an Autumn wedding
Dressing for a Meols Hall autumn wedding was a joy. My dress was from Mirror Mirror in Barnsbury, London — the team there were so lovely and really built my confidence. I wanted something timeless but with a modern twist.
The bridesmaids wore green velvet jumpsuits from Dorothy Perkins, a happy accident after I ordered countless options and everyone chose the same one.
Dan and the groomsmen wore tweed suits from True Clothing in Wood Green. We wanted burgundy tones to match the autumn palette, and they absolutely nailed it. All of the outfits perfectly complemented the look and feel of our Meols Hall autumn wedding.
Meols Hall photos and venue details
Our flowers, by The Flower Farm, brought everything together — rustic reds and oranges in small amber bottles. My stepdad built our wooden crate table plan, and Meols Hall styled everything beautifully. It was exactly what I had imagined.
We had about 90 guests for our Meols Hall autumn wedding, including three bridesmaids and a few ushers. The day itself was incredible — the weather had been terrible all week, but we woke up to crisp air and soft sunshine. I was so nervous before the ceremony, but the moment I saw Dan waiting at the front, it all disappeared.
Dinner felt cosy and communal — we served large sharing pies, which went down perfectly. The evening was a proper party: a Freddie Mercury impersonator kicked things off, then our DJ took over with everything from DJ Sammy to ABBA. Wes even handed out glowsticks, which helped everyone let loose and dance.
Our favourite photo is the one of us walking through the grounds — the light, the colours, and the happiness on our faces say everything about the day.
Wes was our Meols Hall wedding photographer, and he captured the day perfectly with his documentary style and relaxed approach. We recommend him to any couple planning a wedding who wants photos that capture the story without interference.

Reflections from a Meols Hall Photographer
What I love most about Meols Hall autumn wedding photography is the light and texture this venue gives you. The Tithe Barn has so much character — rustic yet elegant — and when combined with autumn colour, it becomes cinematic. Carly and Dan wanted a day full of warmth and honesty, and that’s exactly what came through in their photos.
As a photographer, it’s always a privilege to capture real emotion — not poses, just people being present in their moments. This wedding had that in abundance: laughter, family, joy, and a sense of home that only Meols Hall autumn wedding seems to create.
