Lancashire marquee wedding with a fun festival vibe in Poulton-le-Fylde.

Julie and Tom’s summertime marquee wedding photography story from their farm-house wedding celebrations in Lancashire.

The day began with a traditional wedding ceremony at St Chad’s church in the centre of Poulton-le-Fylde. The couple celebrated their marriage with a festival themed wedding reception held on the families farm-house estate in Poulton-le-Fylde near Blackpool in Lancashire.

Here is there story. Words by Julie Swire (the bride)…

FARM-HOUSE MARQUEE WEDDING IN LANCASHIRE

A marquee wedding on the family farm was so typical of us… Tom and I have known each other for years and we’ve always had mutual friends. Our paths crossed time and again and then eventually Tom asked me on a date in 2011 and the rest, as they say, is history!

Looking back on our Lancashire farm-house marquee wedding, we feel so blessed to have so many special memories. For Tom, meeting his family and friends in the local pub ‘the thatched’ which is situated in the centre of Poulton-le-Fylde, Lancashire, was a great touch and having their picture taken in the new microbrewery – a pub with tremendous heritage is a lasting memory.

FESTIVAL THEMED WEDDING

For me, the excitement of turning up for our marquee wedding reception at the family farm was really special, there was a really cool ‘festival vibe’ about the place with all the children laughing and playing at the different stalls such as hook a duck and coconut shy.

It was really relaxed and informal, just how we planned it. We couldn’t stop laughing when we first arrived because there was a surprise a giant bride and groom sculpture/statue made from hay bales, Wes took a photo of the both of us with it which later used for our thank you cards.

MARQUEE WEDDING IN LANCASHIRE

On the morning of my wedding, I was very relaxed. I got ready at home and we did a “reveal” of the bride. This was very special and my dad got a little emotional.

The wedding ceremony took place at St Chad’s church in the centre of Poulton-le-Fylde. This is our family church and it’s such a prominent landmark in the town. I couldn’t imagine getting married anywhere else.

It was a perfect Lancashire summers day with some light showers, this went hand in hand with our BBQ themed meal which was prepared by the fabulous Jacks Bistro, St Anne’s. We had live music and the marquee was beautifully decorated by the very talented girls from Willows Florist.

A highlight of the day for me was walking down the aisle in my Maggie Sottero wedding dress, feeling like a princess and seeing everybody’s head turn was a feeling I will never forget – I felt overwhelmed to see all those faces there just for us.

I complimented my Maggie Sottero wedding dress with a beautiful pair of Jimmy Choo designer wedding shoes. My bouquet was a mix of pink and white roses. Tom, the Ushers, best man and my Dad all wore matching blue suits with pink ties and flowers.

WEDDING DAY HIGHLIGHTS

Tom and I were both made up with how everything came together and how our family farm-house marquee wedding day was a true reflection of us as a couple.

I remember feeling like a ‘move start’ when I arrived at the church, there was members of the public cheering and clapping as I got out of the car. And to top it off, all these magical and unexpected moments were captured by our talented photographer Wes Simpson. He captured all the details, hugs, smiles and tears, he even showed us things that happened we never knew about.

LANCASHIRE WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER

Booking a professional wedding photographer was one of the top decisions we had to make when planning our farm-house marquee wedding in Lancashire. We value photography and didn’t want ‘cookie-cutter’ wedding photography or a photographer who would be in our face all day.

Wes came recommended by my sister in law Gina who is an internationally published model. I was researching photographers for weeks and just couldn’t seem to find a fit until Gina said out of the blue –

“I’ve met this photographer called Wes, his work is really unique and a bit different, you have got to check him out.”

It’s Gina’s job to be photographed, so for her to recommend a single photographer form all the photographers she meets, well I was intrigued, to say the least.

What we found appealing about Wes’s style of photography was how he captured moments that other conventional photographers wouldn’t see. Wes is a big guy, with a big attitude for life and he just gets it!

MARQUEE WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY

When planning our farm-house marquee wedding I always said that one of the most important things is to be able to look back in years to come and relive our wonderful day, and that’s what Wes has achieved for us with his stunning images and relaxed approach that comes from his planning and free advice.

After the wedding, whilst on honeymoon Wes (with my blessing and enthusiasm) posted a few teaser pics on his FaceBook page, I loved the sneak peeks so much that I was messaging him from the airport on route to my honeymoon for more previews. I couldn’t wait to see more.

After the wedding, we received a personal online gallery with all the pictures. And the end result is a beautiful storybook wedding album. What Wes produced for us was far beyond my dreams and expectations, in terms of quality, craftsmanship and detailed storytelling.

Julie Swire – the happy bride.
