North Wales Wedding Story
Hi, we are Rachel and Nathan from Buckley in North Wales, big up the Tivoli. And this is our Highfield Hall wedding photography story.
I’m a learning support assistant in a primary school and Nath is a mast-climber. We have been together for 9 years. We met in the only nightclub in our town – the infamous Tiv!
Considering Nath doesn’t come across as an emotional or romantic guy, the engagement was perfect. He took me to Rome to visit the Trevi fountain and got down on one knee. He read out a personalised poem to me with the BIG question at the end. Obviously, I said yes!
We went to go and celebrate with food booked at our hotel when Nath told me to go to the bar and grab the drinks he’d ordered. I felt a tap on my shoulder and it was my little Dad. Nath surprised me by sorting for my dad and Patsy to spend the rest of the time in Rome with us celebrating.
We returned home and soon started planning our Highfield Hall wedding…
Highfield Hall Wedding Venue
We got married at Highfield Hall in North Wales, this was our 3rd planned wedding. The first time we booked here but then got preggo with Evie, we then booked an abroad holiday but didn’t fancy that in the end.
So eventually we went back to our original Highfield Hall wedding plans and prayed for sunshine in June and we got exactly that.
We had 70 guests to the day, including 7 bridesmaids, 4 ushers, one best man and two flower girls. We had 150 to the night time and wow did we party.
The wedding theme was all light blue to honour my nan who passed away and would always wear light blue.
Wedding Highlights
I wish I could relive our day over and over again. Nothing is perfect in life but our Highfield Hall wedding day came close.
Standout moments… so many. Being with my two little girls and all my bridesmaids in the morning, my flowers getting delivered, doing the reveal to my dad with my mum and sister by my side, seeing Nathans’s face as I walked down the aisle, also hearing how much he loved my welcome sign.
The speeches were incredible and the first dance, I loved it. We got so carried away we forgot to cut the cake so I wouldn’t spend a bomb on a wedding cake.
My favourite part of our Highfield Hall wedding day was when the kids went to sleep. Nath and I weren’t on pins (book that wedding nanny future couples.)
Wedding Photographer Recommendation
We would 100 Million per cent recommend Wes Simpson Weddings to photograph your wedding. He’s creative, laid-back and professional.
He added to our Highfield Hall wedding experience positively and the images he captured bring back so many memories that we will cherish forever.
Our best mates are getting married in Santorini in August and he’s their destination wedding photographer. I couldn’t be happier for him, he deserves all the success in the world.
If you want good energy, a laugh and to feel comfortable with getting your photos taken all day, then Wes Simpson is your man. We can’t recommend him enough.
From the first FaceTime meeting to the sneak-peek previews, Wes has been a pleasure to work with and we’ve loved getting to know him. I’d love to do our wedding all over again, and with the help of his photos, we do every time we look at them. He can capture emotions and the story of your wedding day like no other photographer.

Memories, Not Just Photos
On a personal note, Rachel and Nathan’s wedding allowed me to catch up with a past wedding couple of mine, Zara and Ryan who was bridesmaid and best man. I had the pleasure of photographing their destination wedding many years ago in Sorrento, Italy. The wedding produced one of my most iconic images.
The image of Zara and Ryan crossing the road in Sorrento was one of my most-liked posts on social media, way before going viral was a thing. So during Rachal and Nathan’s wedding, Zara, Ryan and I took a moment to recreate their “iconic” photo.
Thanks for the memories ;-)
