A Family Farm Marquee Wedding in Lancashire

Julie and Tom’s family farm-house/marquee wedding story from Poulton-le-Fylde, Lancashire.

Words by the bride – Julie Swire.

A marquee wedding on the family farm was so typical of us… Tom and I have known each other for years and we’ve always had mutual friends. Our paths have crossed time and again and then eventually Tom asked me on a date in 2011 and the rest, as they say, is history!

Looking back on our Lancashire wedding day, we feel so blessed to have so many special memories that stand. For Tom, meeting his family and friends in the local pub ‘the thatched’ which is situated in the centre of Poulton-le-Fylde, Lancashire, was a great touch and having their picture taken in the new microbrewery – a pub with tremendous heritage. The amazing scene of turning up for our marquee wedding reception at the family farm with the children laughing and playing at the different stalls such as hook a duck and a coconut shy, the hay bails made into a bride and groom, and how beautiful the marquee looked when decorated by the very talented girls from Willows Florist. It was a perfect Summers day which went hand in hand with our BBQ themed meal which was prepared by the fabulous Jacks Bistro, St Anne’s.

Walking down the aisle in my Maggie Sottero wedding dress, feeling like a princess and seeing everybody’s head turn was a feeling I will never forget – I felt overwhelmed to see all those faces there just for us. Tom and I were both made up with how everything came together and how the day was a reflection of us and our values. And to top it off all these magical moments were captured by our creative photographer Wes Simpson.

Lancashire Wedding Photographer

Booking a photographer was one of the top decisions we had to make when planning the wedding. Wes came recommended by my sister in law Gina who is an internationally published model. I was researching photographers for weeks and just couldn’t seem to find a fit until Gina said out the blue “I’ve met this photographer called Wes, his work is something different, you have got to check him out” It’s Gina’s job to be photographed, so for her to recommend a single photographer form all the photographers she meets, well I was intrigued, to say the least.

What we found unique about Wes’s style of photography was how he captured moments that other conventional photographers wouldn’t. Wes is a big guy, with a big attitude for life and he just gets it. For me, the most important thing is to be able to look back in years to come and relive our wonderful day, and that’s what Wes has achieved for us with his stunning images and relaxed approach that comes from his planning and free advice. Any future brides reading this, listen to Wes at the planning meeting, he knows his stuff and his help/suggestions really helped me feel relaxed in the knowledge that my day would run how I wanted.

After the wedding, while on honeymoon Wes (with my blessing and enthusiasm) posted the teaser pics on FaceBook and the blog, I loved them so much that I was messaging him from the airport on route to my honeymoon for more previews. I couldn’t wait to see more and the storybook wedding album he produced for us was far beyond my dreams, in terms of quality, craftsmanship and detailed storytelling. – Julie Adams – the happy bride.
