Destination weddings always offer an extra layer of excitement and adventure, but being commissioned to photograph another photographers wedding to an Italian chef at a beautiful rustic farmhouse wedding venue Fattoria La Loggia in Tuscany Italy! was a huge honour and very exciting…

Lancashire girl Francesca and Italian guy Alberto’s chose Wes Simpson Weddings to photograph their beautiful destination wedding at Fattoria La Loggia, an authentic rustic wedding venue in the Chianti region of Tuscany because they wanted meaningful images that would reflect the beauty of a wedding in Tuscany with the security of dealing with a wedding photographer based in the UK before, during and after the wedding.

Francesca is a talented professional photographer in her own right and Alberto is a creative professional chef who is originally from Italy. After searching for wedding photographers in Tuscany they eventually came across my work via personal recommendation Aja and Ben’s Lancashire Wedding.

The couple first met at a Bistro in Lancashire where Francesca worked part-time whilst studying at university. Alberto was her boss and the friendship grew into the deepest love. Alberto proposed to Francesca whilst on a holiday in Greece on the beautiful island of Rhodes, and they quickly began planning their wedding in Tuscany at Fattoria La Loggia.

Here is their story…

Fattoria La Loggia was the perfect wedding venue for Francesca and Alberto’s dream of an Italian wedding. They always knew they wanted to get married in Tuscany so the first decision they had to make was finding the venue!

They first saw Fattoria La Loggia online and knew straight away it was the wedding venue for them! The location was perfect and of the style of venue, which is full of rustic charm together with the incredible open views of the Tuscany landscape instantly caught their eye.

The time of year was a key factor for the couple when booking their wedding in Tuscany. They wanted an outdoor wedding ceremony but didn’t want it to be too hot for their travelling British and Italian guests, so they decided on an afternoon September wedding.

The wedding décor was naturally influenced by their farmhouse wedding venue Fattoria La Loggia which provided the rustic wedding theme. Having both lost loved ones it was important to the couple that they were included in some way. So the Bride and Groom made a memorial table and used an old bicycle as a welcome sign, which belonged to Alberto’s Grandad. This added to the rustic theme and provided personal touches.

Francesca wore Essense of Australia and her shoes were Jenny Packham. The Bride to know exactly what she wanted in a wedding dress and went for an unstructured gown (which clung perfectly to her curves), with lace sleeves and a beautifully detailed trail.

She travelled all the way to Ava Rose Hamilton, which is a boutique wedding shop in Colne to get her dream dress. Francesca remarked that she ‘felt incredible!! in her Essense of Australia gown.’ The style of dress complimented the beautiful landscape of Tuscany and made for the perfect dress for an outdoor wedding ceremony in Italy.

The Essence Of Australia outfit was complemented with the most stunning bouquet – which was presented to her on the morning of the wedding as a gift from her future Mother-in-law and in keeping with Italian traditions.

The Grooms suit was made by King & Allen, it was royal blue with the inside of the blazer pockets embroidered with their names and wedding date. The material was very lightweight, perfect for the warm temperatures in Tuscany.

Francesca and Alberto had their wedding ceremony outside in the gardens of their villa Fattoria La Loggia in the Chianti region of Tuscany. It was a picture perfect setting, the sun was reflecting over the Tuscan hills and there was a light breeze.

Alberto’s uncle provided the soundtrack to the ceremony by playing the flute and piano throughout the service which included Ava Maria and the song from the film Scent of a Woman.

Francesca’s Mum walked her down the aisle as her Dad had passed 20 years previous. She had a charm wrapped around her bouquet with a picture of her Dad. Alberto read his vows in both English and Italian, which was very personal and romantic.

“The waiting and the tension nearly killed me!!! But when I saw her walking towards me I felt so many things and I just wanted to cry with joy. She looked stunning.” Alberto

The wedding reception was held on the grounds at Fattoria La Loggia, it was an Italian Feast! which started a rich buffet and stand-up starter. It was important to Francesca and Alberto to have relaxed informal dining, as they didn’t want to spend too much time sitting down eating.

With Alberto coming from an Italian family that work and live in restaurants, the food had to be perfect, so a lot of his energy went into creating a rustic, Tuscan menu for the wedding breakfast which included two pasta courses.

During the wedding breakfast, there were three main wedding speeches in both English and Italian, Alberto’s ‘Papa’ made them a cigar and whisky bar, which was very popular with the guests and Francesca’s sister surprised them by singing an emotional song which opened the dance floor for the night time entertainment.

The couple wanted some creative portraits that would be a reflection of them as a couple together with images that would showcase the true beauty of Tuscany, for everyone wanting to share in the joy of the wedding day back home.

With this in mind, we did a couple of simple portraits at Fattoria La Loggia before jumping into my hire car and chasing the last of the sunlight 5 minutes up the road. I found it an absolute joy to incorporate the vineyards, rolling hills, and gorgeous sunsets of Tuscany into the wedding pictures to create works of art that will complement the memory of the wedding day for years to come.

“We love all the pictures Wes took! Especially the one with the Cypress trees! That is my favourite and one of the many reasons why I love the Tuscan landscape so much.”

“Fattoria La Loggia is so picturesque, everywhere you looked there was a shot to be taken! It could have been overwhelming, but Wes did a fantastic job of simplifying what was needed in the time we had available because the day really does go so fast.”

“If you’re looking for a wedding photographer and want someone with a creative vision, a professional friendly manner and a brilliant mind for storytelling then Wes Simpson is the photographer to turn to.” – Francesca

Tips from the Bride and Groom:

When planning a wedding in Tuscany, I have to be honest and say that our realistic budget went out the window pretty fast. So, I would say make sure you do your research properly! Listen to each other and not everyone else, it’s your wedding day. Work together and make time for each other. Compromise!”

“For me, one of the most important wedding ‘must have’s’ had to be booking a fantastic wedding photographer! Especially as I’m a photographer by trade myself. When all is said and done, the photos last forever!” – Francesca

The nighttime party at got started with some fun traditional Italian wedding games organised by the bride’s brother and the best man which seen the Groom being blindfolded and the Bride and Groom racing to change a nappy on two dolls.

‘The Big Wedding Band’ from Rome provided the entertainment and the music for the first dance which took place outside in the courtyard at Fattoria La Loggia. Everyone then partied the night away making memories they will cherish forever.

I believe hiring a photographer you trust and whose style you like is even more important when planning a destination wedding than getting married at home. Family and friends invest in a holiday to see you tie the knot and everyone back home will want to experience the excitement of your wedding through your photographs.
