If you like romance you’ll love this surprise engagement photo shoot from St Paul’s Bay, Lindos, on the beautiful Greek island of Rhodes.

Engagement photo shoots are always fun, often they are pre-wedding portrait photoshoots on location prior to the wedding day to help the bride and groom get used to having their picture taken with the photos being used as wedding invitations or for a guest book. But the real magic happens with an engagement photo shoot when I’m booked to capture the surprise of a ‘real-time’ wedding proposal.

I am a UK based destination wedding photographer from Liverpool and my work takes me all over the world. Whilst I was in Lindos, on the beautiful Greek Island of Rhodes and preparing to photograph the British/American Destination Wedding celebrations of Beth and Keith (See here), I got a Facebook message from a friend back home. The message from Keith read…

“Hi Wes, are you by any chance in Lindos – Greece, if so how long for? It’s Jayne’s 30th birthday on Thursday and I’ve just surprised her with a romantic trip to Rhodes. We are on the way to the airport now and I’m wondering if you are available on Thursday evening to do me a favour! I’m planning something special for Jayne which will take place on St Paul’s Bay in Lindos and I would love it if you could be there.”

I’ve known Keith and Jayne for about 10 years, which is about the length of time since they first got together. We share a number of close friends and I even provided them with a pregnancy portrait session before their Son Aaron was born. So I edged my bets and guessed that Keith was planning on popping the question and an engagement photo shoot would add to the surprise and romance.

A plan was hatched via Facebook messenger, with Keith telling Jayne that he thought it would be a fantastic birthday treat to take advantage of the coincidence that their friend and professional photographer, was not only in the same country, but the same town, so he had arranged for a birthday family portrait session to take place with me on St Paul’s Bay in Lindos. The rest of this beautiful story can be seen in the below slideshow…
