This was a unique and personal wedding for me, Lauren is my cousin, and she was a bridesmaid at my first wedding as a photographer in 2006, at Langdale Chase in the Lake District. So I was overjoyed to have been asked to photograph her wedding to Michael. A couple I am very fond of.

The autumn celebrations took place at Standish’s Ashfield House. A warm and welcoming privately owned exclusive wedding venue bordering Lancashire, Greater Manchester, and Merseyside.

When it came to their photography the newlyweds were looking for a natural but creative style of wedding photography and chose Wes Simpson Weddings because that is exactly my speciality.

Even though the couple planned a vintage-themed wedding, they didn’t feel the need to hire a ‘hipster’ photographer, and they didn’t want the latest Instagram filters on the pictures.

They did, however, want their wedding photography to be authentic, timeless, and perfectly reflect the day.

Lauren and Michael brought their love for the 1920s, into every element of their day. Lauren wore a gorgeous vintage-inspired gown with a headpiece from Etsy and iconic Vivienne Westwood shoes, while Michael donned a stylish 1930s Cuban suit from Thomas Farthing.

Their style effortlessly blended with the decor of Ashfield House, making for an autumn wedding day that felt both modern and full of history.

The couple’s choice of rich, autumnal flowers perfectly complemented the warm, rustic vibe of their day, while the relaxed flow of the venue ensured the guests felt at home, enjoying every moment of the celebration.

Lauren and Michael wanted their wedding photos to be as authentic as their love story—natural, creative, and timeless. They opted for a documentary-style approach to their wedding photography, which is my speciality at Wes Simpson Weddings.

The couple’s reception at Ashfield House was filled with laughter, love, and great food. After the ceremony, guests enjoyed cocktails, Pimms, and local ales, served by the venue’s friendly staff.

For their wedding breakfast, Lauren and Michael opted for a relaxed menu of pulled pork burgers, buffalo wings, and Krispy Kreme doughnuts for dessert—adding a fun, personal touch to the day.

With 75 close family and friends present, the intimate atmosphere allowed me to capture natural, heartfelt moments throughout the celebration, from candid group shots on the terrace to bridal portraits on the grand staircase.

A Special Moment: The Bride, Groom, and Their Daughter.

One of the most touching parts of Lauren and Michael’s Ashfield House wedding day came during the speeches when Michael presented Lauren’s daughter, Sienna, with a beautiful antique sapphire ring.

This thoughtful gesture, symbolic of the family they had become, was a beautiful moment to photograph—showcasing the deep love and connection that united them all. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house.
